Industrial 5G development environment to be launched in Finland

VTT Technical Research Center of Finland will build up a research and development environment for industrial 5G network. One of the first 5G testbeds in the world, the environment provides companies an opportunity to develop and test new Industrial Internet solutions.

The wireless network of the environment is not bound to any specific technology. Thus, the platform welcomes any local or international R&D operation to test their hardware and software, which require data transactions between technologies.

“Finland has been at the forefront in mobile network development for decades. Earlier this year we launched the open 5G Test Network Finland which brought Nokia, Huawei and Ericsson together for the first time”, says Arto Pussinen, Head of ICT Industry, Invest in Finland.

“A new 5G test environment for Industrial Internet solutions is a natural continuum to this story, and shows that Finland is the place to look at if you want fast and reliable connectivity and to stay a step ahead of competitors in your R&D operations.”

The 5G development environment will be located in Northern Finland, close to city of Oulu, and taken into use in late-summer.
